While there are a lot of new bugs since the code was completely rewritten, the additional features and the support are excellent and, for me, well worth the money – and the bugs are getting fixed.
HRD VERSION 5.24 UPGRADE
However, I have found the upgrade extremely worthwhile.

Like most folks, I resisted paying for something that used to be free for so long. I recently upgraded to the new, which is sold for around $100. I’ve been using it for close to a decade and am still learning new things it will do.

HRD VERSION 5.24 WINDOWS
This is something I don’t understand about Windows “document” abstraction. Another thing is that the folder fldgig.files does not appear under “My Documents”. If the xml is corrupt, like a macro # is missing, fldigi will close as soon as yo hit the macro. I suspect there may be a file path problem.Īlthough this must have worked before to save macros, what definitely works is to directly edit … fldigi.files/macros/macros.mdf with a text editor. On the Sony Vaio, the path was c:\program files\hrd software, llc\Ham Radio Deluxe|DMMacrosDefns.xml – AND also C:|Documents and Settings\peter\Application Data\Simon Brown, HB9DRV\Digital Master 780\DMMacrosDefns.xml. The storage of macros and program data in the user profile may enable HRD to be configured differently for each user, again I don’t know. It is possible that the file in the user profile is configurable while the file in the /program files/hrd software, llc directory contains defaults. Now macro edits can be saved.ĭM780 supports multiple macro sets which may explain why there are more than one macro definition file. Found the problem, the macro files were marked read only but I could uncheck that box. (I suspect “junk” is the same thing as Application Data - but somehow the name got messed up in my profile). I had issues getting DM780 macros to save on the Dell Desktop– the path is a wierd one ~/Documents and Settings/peter/junk/Simon Brown/Digital Master 780/DMMacrosDefns.xml. Took a long time to discover this was what was happening. Click on the waterfall on a desired frequency or signal, then on the center frequency marker and DM780 tunes the radio so the desired frequency is at the center frequency to provides optimum modulation. I found that DM780 has a setting for 1000 hz – center frequency.

These internet extras do improve the tedium of the requisite qso documentation and recordation. PSK-Reporter is fully integrated – as are HRD Log, EQSL, and LOTW uploads. The logbook needs to be active for the QSO info to populate correctly, QRZ.com’s xml subscription is needed.

Now – what about my QRZ.COM logs – do I abandon them and switch over? TBD.ĭM780 also requires some stick time. HRD integrates with QRZ.COM xml and the logging function is working. HDR is cool but it’s the DM that is very useful for PSK31. Don’t know if it can be configured on any other port but it sure works well on com6. I did move things around before getting com6 to come up. I’m not sure what happens if you move the USB port used for the CAT. HRD takes getting used to and it took a bunch of trials to get the interface to read the frequency on the radio. Whether I spring $100 for the licensed version remains to be seen. This is the standard ham rig control package, and like a lot of ham software, is free and very functional, and has gone the way of some shareware – the original authors finally sell out in exhaustion, and the new owners turn to profit-making. With it I brought HRD and Digital Master 780 online for my FT857D. It took a few tries with the CAT cable until good friend and elmer kh6tz spotted me his spare USB CAT for the Yaesu 857 to use and this one works. To get HRD and digital master to work, the CAT needs to be working.
